Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) @ New York Giants (-3) Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 4:25 p.m. ET

The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants are coming off perhaps the most emotional win of the season after putting down the arch division rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 8. After avenging the Week 1 loss at MetLife Stadium by defeating their division rivals at Cowboys Stadium last weekend, the Giants are flying high headed into Week 9 with another tough challenge ahead in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This season hasn’t been kind to the Steelers as they’ve failed to live up to expectations in the first half of year. Although Pittsburgh heads into this weekend’s matchup against New York with a 4-3 record and a strong possibility to clinch a playoff berth at season’s end, the fact remains that the Steelers aren’t the dominant team of old with problems on both sides of the football this season. Fortunately, the defense in Pittsburgh is as advertised with the Steelers currently the best pass defense in the league only giving up 182.9 passing yards per game and the 9th best run defense with 91.6 rushing yards conceded on average. As for the offense in Pittsburgh, two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger continues to play well as the leader under center with 1,987 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions on the year. If the Steelers can turn things around and reach the playoffs once again, Big Ben might be in the running for NFL MVP along with Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos’ Peyton Manning. Although Roethlisberger is seemingly poised to make a run at one of his best seasons to date, the Giants on the other hand are dedicated to defending their Super Bowl title and winning their third ring in six years. New York will come into this matchup with enough offensive firepower to compete with the defensive savvy Steelers. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning has played extremely well this season with 2,301 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Along with Manning’s impressive numbers, running back Ahmad Bradshaw has also had decent season as one of the top 10 rushers with 570 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. At this point in time, the defending champs have the edge on their home field at MetLife Stadium with a -3 point spread in their favor. This matchup will be an all-out battle that may very well come down to the wire, but ultimately the Giants will get the win while covering the spread.

Prediction: Giants -3
