Seattle Seahawks (+1) @ Detroit Lions (-1) Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 1 p.m. ET

After missing ending the playoff drought with an impressive season last year, the Detroit Lions were thought to have turned the corner and climbed out of the depths of the NFC Conference. With Matthew Stafford carrying the load under center, Calvin Johnson getting it done downfield and Ndamukong Suh leading the defense, the Lions appeared to be the team of the future in the NFL. Unfortunately, the first half of the 2012 NFL season isn’t going as planned for Stafford and company with four losses in their first six games and a last place standing in the highly competitive NFC North division. Along with struggling right out of the gate this season, the Lions seemingly have no shot at winning the division title thus far with the Chicago Bears leading the way in the NFC North, Minnesota Vikings coming from nowhere to become a legitimate playoff contender and the Green Bay Packers beginning to climbing back up the standings. Needless to say, Detroit is pressing the panic button with the next 10 days must-win situations for the up-and-coming Lions. With a somewhat impressive outing in Week 7 against the division rival Bears, the Lions might be on the verge of turning it around, but will have their hands full in Week 8 against a the solid defense of the Seattle Seahawks. As one of the surprise teams of the season, the Seahawks have played extremely well in the first six games of the season with only three losses on the year thus far and a legitimate shot to make the playoffs in the NFC. With running back Marshawn Lynch coming out of the backfield and rookie quarterback Russell Wilson under center, the Seahawks have been a resilient football team and never out of any game regardless of the score. Even though Wilson has played better than expected as of late and Lynch continues to play at a Pro Bowl level, Seattle has been led by their defense. Coming into Week 8, Seattle is giving up only 85 yards on the ground (6th in the NFL) and 212.3 yards through the air (8th in the NFL). The defense will be crucial against the passing game this weekend as they try and contain Stafford and Johnson. At this point in time, the Lions have been given the edge in this Week 8 matchup with a -1 point spread. With this game being played in Detroit and this team in desperate need of a win, I believe the Lions will come out on top and cover the spread.

Prediction: Lions -1
