New York Jets (+11) @ New England Patriots (-11) Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 4:25 p.m. ET

As arguably one of the best teams in the NFL over the past decade or so, the New England Patriots have been a force to be reckoned with every single season with Tom Brady under center and Bill Belichick calling the shots from the sidelines. Even though New England has shown flashes of last season on offense at times this year, Brady and company are having trouble with consistency with a mediocre 3-3 record heading into Week 7. As if the loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week wasn’t enough to get Coach Belichick rattled and motivated to turn the season around, the Patriots will go head-to-head against the arch division rival New York Jets in Week 7. In an attempt to reign supreme in the AFC East once again, New England will be coming into this matchup against their bitter rivals with a must-win attitude as a loss to New York will be costly in the race for the division title. The Jets on the other hand are still trying to figure out a way to get it together on offense and deal with the loss of Pro Bowl corner Darrell Revis on defense. Although Revis has gone down for the season along with veteran wideout Santonio Holmes, Rex Ryan’s squad is still in the playoff hunt and might be able to turn things around before the season gets out of hand. At this point in time, the Patriots still appear to be the best team within the division and the clear favorite to win the division title. Even though that appears to be the case, all four teams in the AFC East have 3-3 records and a legitimate shot to dethrone New England. With that being said, this game will be huge for both the Jets and Patriots as they try to save their seasons. The loser will fall below .500 (3-4) while the winner will gain a decisive edge in the division and may be able to turn it on with 10 weeks remaining in the regular season. Even though it is always a heated battle between the Patriots and Jets when they go head-to-head, this time around the scales tilt heavily in favor of Brady’s squad with New England being given the edge with a -11 point spread. It’s no secret that betting in favor of the Patriots to cover this large spread is risky, but it is the right move with New England in need of a big win in this statement game and playing at home.
