Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 1 p.m. ET

After starting the season winning seven out of the first eight games, the Chicago Bears have headed into a downward spiral that could end with missing the playoffs entirely. Jay Cutler and company have been a solid football team for most of the season, but seem to have dropped the ball as of late without being able to capitalize on opportunities to clinch a playoff berth in the NFC. Back in Week 15, the Bears had a shot to take a step closer at winning the NFC North division title going head-to-head with the arch rival Green Bay Packers for the second and final meeting of the season. Unfortunately for Chicago, the team failed to show up on their home field resulting in conceding the division crown to the Packers and the crowd at Soldier Field drowning out any hope with boos. Despite the loss to the Packers resulting in forcing the Bears to clinch a playoff berth via the NFC Wild Card, Chicago still has a shot to be playoff bound with a win over the division rival Detroit Lions on Sunday. If the Bears take down the Lions at Detroit and the Minnesota Vikings lose to the Packers, Chicago will have another shot to bounce back by officially punching their ticket to the playoffs. Even though the Lions haven’t been able to capitalize on their impressive season last year in which they finally ended their long playoff drought, Detroit is still a force to be reckoned on both sides of the football and more than capable of pulling out this win over the Bears on Sunday at Ford Field. Last week, superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson made headlines for breaking Jerry Rice’s single-season receiving record. Johnson had an amazing performance catching 11 passes for 225 yards, but the Lions still fell to the No. 1 seeded Atlanta Falcons, 31-18. In the regular-season finale against the Bears, the Lions will attempt to end the season on a high note with a win over their division rivals in front of their hometown fans. Detroit will definitely give the struggling Bears a run for their money on Sunday, but in the end I believe Chicago will come out on top. The Bears are favored to get the win on the road with a -3 point spread. Solid play here as Chicago will likely get the win and cover.

Prediction: Bears -3
