San Diego Chargers (+8) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (-8) Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 1 p.m. ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers season was thought to be on the brink of disaster after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went down with multiple injuries in the overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs a few weeks ago. The loss of Big Ben was potentially devastating for the Steelers with no viable backups that can compare to his skills in terms of throwing the ball downfield, scrambling in pocket were basically given the team the best chance to win on any given Sunday. In relief of Roethlisberger, the Steelers went with backup Byron Leftwich against the division rival Baltimore Ravens. The move actually was a good one as Leftwich played well and almost led the Steelers to win over Baltimore at Heinz Field. Unfortunately, the Steelers still short and the season was in question as a result. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Leftwich went down with similar injuries in comparison to Roethlisberger and forced the team to go with 37-year-old Charlie Batch. Although Batch was a good quarterback in the past, he’s been nothing more than emergency backup for Pittsburgh. Fortunately, the wily veteran led the Steelers to a victory over the ravens in their second meeting last weekend. The win put the Steelers right back in the hunt and may have given them a legitimate shot at winning the AFC North division title, clinching a playoff berth and maybe making a deep run in the postseason. Coming into Week 14, Steelers will face-off against the San Diego Chargers at Heinz Field and will likely cruise to an easy victory with the return of Roethlisberger under center. At this point in time, Pittsburgh’s favorite to win at home with a -8 point spread. This is a somewhat large spread with Roethlisberger returning from an injury, but something that the team can cover.

Prediction: Steelers -8
