New England Patriots (-9) @ Miami Dolphins (+9) Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 1 p.m. ET

After a disappointing showing in the Super Bowl against the New York Giants, the New England Patriots appear to be a dynasty on the decline with Tom Brady possibly nearing the end of his Hall of Fame caliber career in the NFL. Bill Belichick and company surprise everyone by reaching the Super Bowl last year with only a potent offense leading the way in a seriously flawed defense. This season seems to be more of the same for the Patriots as they started out somewhat rocky and have hit their stride as of late. New England has won five straight games coming into Week 13 and appears to be on a hot streak that will continue throughout the rest the regular season and possibly carry over into the playoffs. The AFC East division title is a foregone conclusion for the Patriots at this point in time as they will more likely clinch the division title this week or at some point in the next four weeks. In Week 13, the Patriots will face-off against the Miami Dolphins in a division rivalry battle at Sun Life Stadium. New England has an opportunity to win the AFC East crown by taking down the Dolphins on their home field this weekend. Although the Dolphins are better than expected under Joe Philbin and with rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill under center, Miami is still a few pieces away from being a legitimate playoff team in the AFC. The team looks promising to say the least under the new regime, but it might be a few more years before they come together as a solid force to be reckoned with within the conference. As for the Patriots, Tom Brady and company are aiming for another Super Bowl title and have a legitimate shot at doing just that. New England might be without their best weapon on offense in Pro bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski who suffered a broken arm recently, but they will likely continue to fire on all cylinders on offense with plenty of options for Brady downfield. The key matchup in this AFC East showdown will be the Patriots’ offense against the Dolphins’ defense. If Miami can figure out how to contain Brady, they’ll have a shot at pulling off the upset. At this point time, New England is heavily favored to head to Miami and come out with the win sporting a -9 point spread. Large spreads like this are dangerous, but there seems to be no stopping the Patriots right now.

Prediction: Patriots -9
