Indianapolis Colts (+5) @ Detroit Lions (-5) Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 1 p.m. ET

As arguably one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season, the Indianapolis Colts have played extremely well heading into Week 13’s matchup with the Detroit Lions. Rookie Andrew Luck appears to be the real deal at the quarterback position in the NFL as these far exceeded expectations in his first year with the Colts. Indianapolis is currently sporting an impressive7-4 record while sitting in second place in the itsy South division behind arguably one of the best teams in the league and the Houston Texans. With their basically being little chance the Colts will get the best of the Texans in the final weeks of the season, the best opportunity for Indianapolis to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC is to win as many games as possible in the final weeks of the regular season. The Lions will be the first of five games left to play for the playoffs begin. Although Detroit is equally talented if not more talented than the new look Colts roster, Detroit has failed to live up to expectations this season after ending the playoff drought last year. With Matthew Stafford leading the way and Pro Bowl wide receiver Calvin Johnson downfield, the Lions one-two punch was not to be one of the most lethal of the NFL and perhaps for the most promising after such a successful season last year. Unfortunately, Detroit just hasn’t been able to get it together this season as they struggle play consistently well. Last week’s loss to the Texans in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day was about as bad as it gets this up-and-coming squad. The Lions were on the cusp of pulling off the big upset over Houston on the holiday, but fell short after failing to capitalize in overtime. In Week 13, Detroit will have an opportunity to avenge the loss to the Texans last week by trying to get the best of another AFC South heavyweight in the Colts. At this point in time, the Lions have been dubbed the favorite with a -5 point spread. Despite such an impressive performance against Houston last week, Detroit might be in for another loss on Sunday with Indianapolis winning five the last six games. The Colts will likely pull off a slight upset on the road with Luck leading the charge once again.

Prediction: Colts +5
