San Francisco 49ers (-7) @ St. Louis Rams (+7) Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 1 p.m. ET

The quarterback controversy with the San Francisco 49ers is in full swing with head coach Jim Harbaugh choosing to go with second-year man Colin Kaepernick over veteran Alex Smith. The decision was basically a foregone conclusion with everyone knowing that it was a matter of time before Harbaugh would make Kaepernick the starter under center moving forward. Fortunately, the 49ers happen to be one of the best teams in the NFC this season with little chance of not winning the NFC West division title at this point in time with an 8-2-1 record and a clear edge over the St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks within the division. Coming into Week 13, the 49ers will be looking to take one more step towards clinching the division title and concentrating on second consecutive playoff run. San Francisco has been playing as advertised with past few weeks since losing Smith to a concussion injury suffered against the Rams in Week 10. The results of the first meeting between these two division rivals ended in an uncommon tie. The 49ers were unable to get the best of the Rams after heading into overtime and needed team was able to score to put the nail in the coffin and add one more win to the record. Fortunately, Jim Harbaugh and company will be able to avenge that tie back in Week 10 as they will head to St. Louis to take on the Rams for the second and final time of regular season. With two straight wins, Kaepernick as proving to be a force for the 49ers and the main reason for Smith’s benching despite being healthy enough to get back on the field after suffering a concussion in the first meeting would St. Louis. The quarterback controversy will almost certainly continue throughout the rest of the regular season and will likely carry over into the playoffs. The result of every single game from here on out will be heavily criticized if Kaepernick begins to struggle or proves not to be worthy of the starting role under center in San Francisco. At this point time, the 49ers had been favored to get the win on the road with -7 point spread heading into this matchup. Solid spread and something that Kaepernick and company should cover regardless of being on the road.

Prediction: 49ers -7
