New England Patriots (-7) @ New York Jets (+7) Thurs. Nov. 22, 2012 8:20 p.m. ET

After absolutely embarrassing rookie phenom Andrew Luck and the up-and-coming Indianapolis Colts in Week 11 (59-24), the New England Patriots have extended their winning streak to four games and appear to be in control of their playoff destiny. Although the Patriots are still red-hot with the offense firing on all cylinders once again, New England suffered a major blow last weekend with Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski going down with a broken arm on the final extra point scored by kicker Stephen Gostkowski. The injury was as unexpected as it was ill-advised. Gronkowski suffered the broken arm on a play in which the Pro Bowler should’ve never been on the field in the first place with the game in hand. Now the Patriots might have to play the rest of the regular season and playoffs without arguably their best offensive weapon in the passing game. Fortunately, New England has a stable of capable tight ends to fill the void with Aaron Hernandez and Visanthe Shiancoe, but neither player in their top form compares to Gronkowski’s impact. The injury may have come at the worst time possible for the Patriots as they are set to face off against the arch division rival New York Jets on Thanksgiving Day. Although the Jets aren’t anywhere near the force they once were two seasons ago with the league’s best defense, New York can still pull off the upset at MetLife Stadium this weekend with the Jets coming off a bounce back win over the St. Louis Rams. The struggling offense for the Jets was finally able to get going in Week 11 with a passing touchdown from Mark Sanchez and two rushing touchdowns by running back Bilal Powell. Despite finally snapping an ugly three-game losing streak at the expense of the Rams, the Patriots are another beast altogether with the league’s best offense at their disposal. Three-time NFL MVP Tom Brady continues to play at a high level coming into this game on the verge of surpassing 3,000 yards for the season (2,976). Brady has also found targets in the endzone 21 times as well as rushing for two more while only throwing three interceptions this season. At this point in time, the Patriots are the favorite to come out on top against their division rivals with a -7 point spread in their favor. Sounds about right with the way New England has dominated the competition so far this season.

Prediction: Patriots -7
