Broncos Big Betting Upset Against Panthers, Win Super Bowl 50 It would seem that all the betting hype surrounding the Carolina Panthers did not work out as many fans thought it would, as the Denver Broncos totally dominated the game on Sunday, during Super Bowl 50. The end result was a score of 24-10 in favor of the Broncos, who were a 6-point underdog at the start of the match. Despite the Denver offense not being as efficient as most would have hoped, what truly led them to victory was their defense. Here are a few stats, for both teams, that stand out:
Stats Panthers Broncos
Total Net Yards: 315 194
Pass Comp-Att-Int 18-41-1 13-23-1
Times Sacked 7 5
Fumbles 4 3
Field Goals 1/2 (4 pts) 3/3 (10 pts)
We can already tell that not only did the defense play a major role, but that the kickers actually had a big hand in helping their team. It was a big upset, as the Bronco defense shut down Cam Newton, who managed to rush for 45 yards, but ultimately it was Jonathan Stewart than ran the ball in for their only touchdown. As a big surprise, neither of the quarterbacks was awarded with the MVP award, but rather a player from the defense did. Von Miller, a linebacker for the Broncos, could be said that he was one of the biggest forces behind the team’s victory, which is exactly why he was named the Most Valuable Player for the game. He had five tackles, 2.5 sacks, and was able to force Newton to fumble twice. He worked amazingly well with his teammates on the line, as DeMarcus Ware got 2.0 sacks, T.J. Ward got a pick off of Newton, and Chris Harris shined with 5 tackles and 1.0 sack. All season these four players were proving their value and talent, and it paid off, big time. It is a good idea to do your own thinking when betting, especially when it is on the Super Bowl, as favorites have been surprised in the past. It seems that Manning’s experience, and such a great defense helped the Broncos get their third franchise win.
